Ukraine Crisis Should Be EU's Responsibility, Says Trump’s Envoy

Richard Grenell, an ally of Donald Trump, believes the EU should handle the Ukraine crisis because it's in their geographic backyard. He criticizes President Biden for not engaging in diplomacy with Russia and suggests creating more autonomous regions in Ukraine to end the conflict. Moscow responded skeptically to his proposal, citing past failed agreements.
Richard Grenell, a close associate of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, argues that resolving the Ukraine crisis should be the European Union's responsibility due to its geographic proximity.

Grenell, who is likely to be a key figure in Trump's potential administration, made his remarks in an interview with German tabloid Bild.

He emphasized that the EU should take the lead in addressing the conflict, similar to how the US would handle a war in Mexico without seeking foreign help.

Grenell also criticized President Joe Biden for not engaging in diplomacy with Russia, noting that Biden hasn't communicated with President Vladimir Putin in three years.

Grenell has proposed that Ukraine should not join NATO soon and suggested that creating more autonomous regions within Ukraine could help end the hostilities.

This idea, however, was met with skepticism in Moscow, where officials like Maria Zakharova referred to it as a rehash of the Minsk Agreements of 2014-2015, which purportedly aimed at federalizing Ukraine but were abandoned by both Kiev and its Western allies.
