UN issues warning on growing British racism

The UN has issued a report highlighting significant concerns about the increasing levels of racial discrimination in the UK, particularly against individuals of African descent and the Roma community, within the justice system.
The report underscores the prevalence of systemic racism and discrimination, which the government has yet to adequately address.

Additionally, there's a spotlight on the disproportionate use of stop and search tactics against African-descended individuals, signaling a need for the UK to enhance efforts in combating racism and revise its anti-discrimination measures.

Furthermore, the UN criticizes the lack of accountability for British soldiers implicated in war crimes overseas, particularly noting the 2021 Overseas Operations Act, which effectively protects military personnel from prosecution after five years.

The Committee insists the UK ensure thorough investigations and prosecutions of all violations by its officials and armed forces without time limits.

The report also touches on critiques of the UK's immigration policies, specifically accused biases in the treatment of Ukrainians compared to individuals from countries like Sudan, suggesting racial motivations in policy development.

The government, however, disputes these claims, emphasizing the importance of not comparing different vulnerable groups.
