USVI-BVI Passenger Quota Increased, Additional Ferry Run Added

USVI-BVI Passenger Quota Increased, Additional Ferry Run Added

The Passenger quota between the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and the British Virgin Islands via sea will increase by 15, commencing May 27, 2021.

This comes following talks between Premier Hon. Andrew Fahie and USVI’s Governor Hon. Albert Bryan Jr. on the matter.

“Both Governments negotiated and agreed that the boat capacity will be increased from 50 to 65 passengers. The 65 passenger limit is based on clearance and testing capacity of both Governments’ operations,” a government-issued release stated on Friday, May 21.

Commenting on the new direction, Premier Fahie stated: “Our unified approach is to balance health and safety protocols with economic development, and the lives and livelihoods of our people.”

Additional Departure Trip

Furthermore, the release said, the leaders agreed to an additional ferry trip from Road Town Jetty and Charlotte Amalie Jetty.

“Ferry operating times and schedules effective May 27 include daily departure from Road Town Jetty at 8:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. A ferry will depart Charlotte Amalie at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.,” the release added.

Just last week, one ferry operator doubled the passenger limit, by bringing in over 100 passengers from the USVI, causing untold disruptions at the ferry dock, where passengers had to wait hours to be screened and processed.
