Wheatley Joins Residents In Clean Up Exercise

Education Minister and Seventh District Representative Hon. Natalio ‘Sowande’ Wheatley joined residents of the district in a clean up exercise over the weekend.
“The community spirit in Fat Hog's Bay/Brady Ghut was excellent yesterday. I want to applaud Mitsy Ellis Simpson for playing a leading role, the residents who came out and also donated, and all the school children who participated,” he in a social media post on Sunday November 21.

The Deputy Premier added, “team work definitely makes the dream work.”

Several residents participated in the clean up exercise.

“It was a terrific, fun, productive and sunny day. We would also like to express our gratitude to everyone who provided garden tools, food and refreshments. We had a great turn out and we were not short on supplies. Thank you,” Simpson said.

She added, “A special thanks to the Solid Waste Department for trucking out the debris and all the children who participated and enlighten the day.”

Last month, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force partnered with Waste Management Head Mr. Neville Allen, Representatives for 7th and 8th Districts Hon. Wheatley and Hon. Marlon Penn and At-Large Representative Hon. Neville Smith to tackle the long-neglected problem of derelict vehicles.

The force’s Community Officers in East End are the ones spearheading the initiative to remove many of the derelict vehicles that line the roadways, straddle sidewalks and make road travel unsafe for both motorists and pedestrians on the eastern side of Tortola.

The aggressive crackdown targeted over 60 derelict vehicles in the first instance, but will continue with boats, trailers and other types of equipment abandoned along roadways.
