You Can Stay in a LumiPod Surrounded by 80 Volcanoes in France

Airbnb is teaming up with French water brand, Volvic, to offer an overnight adventure at a glass-enclosed prefab in the Chaîne des Puys tectonic area.

After more than a year of border lockdowns and international travel restrictions, spending the night in a mini prefab dwelling surrounded by 80 volcanoes might sound too good to be true. But now, Airbnb and Volvic are teaming up to offer two guests a unique one-night stay in the Chaîne des Puys area of France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region-the site where the French brand sources its natural mineral water.

Airbnb and Volvic are teaming up to offer two guests an overnight stay in a LumiPod situated in Chaîne des Puys, a sprawling tectonic area in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

On September 18, 2o21, two lucky Airbnb guests will enjoy a spectacular overnight getaway in a LumiPod, which is a circular prefab structure with curved glass windows that offer panoramic views of the tectonic setting. In addition to spending the night in the indoor/outdoor accommodation, the trip will include a guided tour of the natural park’s biodiversity, as well as a volcano hike planned by record-breaking mountain athlete, Kilian Jornet, who is the virtual host of the excursion.

The LumiPod’s curved glass windows offer panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic area.

The two guests will also be treated to a hot air balloon ride overlooking the Chaîne des Puys volcanoes (weather dependent), as well as a locally sourced dinner by French Michelin-starred chef, Adrien Descouls, and a private sunrise yoga session.

The Chaîne des Puys area, which is inscribed on UNESCO’s Natural World Heritage list, is home to a roughly 25-mile chain of cinder domes, lava domes, and maars (a type of volcanic crater).

Booking will open on a first come, first served basis at 3:00 a.m. EST (9:00 a.m. CEST) on July 19, 2021. The Airbnb listing notes that "those who request to book must be able to comply with their country of residence’s international travel and COVID-related safety rules and share the same household to minimize risk." The overnight trip is priced at 1€, which amounts to roughly one dollar-however, guests are responsible for their own travel to and from the unique Airbnb listing.
