Veteran rock artist Roger Waters may be facing a split with his label, BMG, due to his contentious remarks about Israel.
Insiders tell Variety that the German music company is considering terminating its relationship with the Pink Floyd co-founder.
Waters, a staunch critic of Israeli policies and a supporter of Palestinian rights, has been at the center of controversy, with some labeling him anti-Zionist or anti-Semitic—an accusation he firmly rejects.
Since 2016, when Waters signed with BMG for the release of a 'Dark Side of the Moon' re-recording, his tension with the label has escalated, especially after a new CEO took the helm last year and ended their previous deal.
Waters suggested in an interview with
Glenn Greenwald that BMG's parent company's pro-Israel stance influenced the strained relations.
His outspoken views haven't been limited to Israel. Last year, he spoke at the UN Security Council, attributing the Ukraine conflict partially to Western actions, which garnered significant criticism.
As of yet, there's been no official word from BMG on Waters' status, with the company declining comment.
