Significant Reduction in Aerospace Engineering Workforce
Boeing has issued layoff notices to 438 members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, a union largely composed of Boeing employees based in Washington state, with some members in Oregon, California, and Utah.
This move is part of a broader initiative by Boeing to reduce its overall workforce by 10%, affecting approximately 17,000 positions within its commercial, defense, and global services divisions.
The layoffs were announced in October, and workers began receiving notifications on Wednesday.
The union, which represents about 17,000 Boeing employees, was informed of this decision as part of the company's efforts to streamline operations.
