Chelsea Sign England Midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona
The 27-year-old returns to English football on a four-and-a-half-year deal after a successful spell with Barcelona.
Chelsea FC has announced the signing of England midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
The 27-year-old, who joined Barcelona in 2022 for a world-record fee in women's football, cited a desire to move closer to her family as a key reason for the transfer.
Walsh had previously spent eight years at Manchester City, winning multiple titles before joining the Spanish club, where she secured two Champions League titles and two Spanish league trophies.
With 80 international caps, Walsh was part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 and finished as runners-up in the 2023 World Cup.
Her return to England strengthens a Chelsea team that currently holds a seven-point lead in the Women's Super League (WSL).
Chelsea's next match is against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Walsh's signing follows a recent high-profile acquisition by Chelsea, with the club making Naomi Girma the first female million-dollar player in a world-record transfer.
