Facebook users report seeing 'random' posts to celebrities in their feed

One Twitter user said: "My feed is spammed with random people posting on celebrity pages?" While another wrote: "Hey @facebook, are you OK bro?"
Facebook users around the world have reported issues with their homepage while trying to browse the app.

The problems were highlighted on other social media platforms like Twitter, where people mentioned seeing "random" people posting on the pages of celebrities.

Facebook owner Meta said a "configuration change" had caused the problems for some users.

DownDetector, a website where people can log outages and issues with different platforms, started receiving reports of the glitch after 6am.

It received more than 2,500 reports from Facebook users about the feed, with some describing it as a "weird issue".

"My feed is spammed with random people posting on celebrity pages?", one Twitter user said.

Another wrote: "Hey @facebook, are you OK bro?"

Reports stated that if someone had posted to a celebrity's page, then everyone else following that famous individual saw the post come up in their newsfeed.

Such posts to popular pages are usually filtered out by an algorithm.

The unrelated messages appeared above posts from friends and connections on the platform.

Meta told Sky News it had been "working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible".

Head of Innovation Communications at Meta, Alexandru Voica, said: "Earlier today, a configuration change caused some people to have trouble with their Facebook feed.

"We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologise for any inconvenience."

The issue seems to have impacted users across the globe, with outages reported in the UK, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Italy, France, the US, Poland, and Australia.

People tried to make the glitch work to their advantage by attempting to publicise their own interests or projects - such posts included requests for jobs, promotion of social channels and business adverts.
