Grandmother Jailed for Stealing £70,000 from Bramcote School

Wendy Gill, a 61-year-old from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was sentenced to two years and one month in prison for stealing over seventy thousand pounds from Bramcote Church of England Primary School in Nottinghamshire. The theft occurred over six years to support her partner's drug habit. This led to significant financial strain, impacting students, staff, and resources at the school.
Wendy Gill, 61, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, has been sentenced to two years and one month in prison for stealing over £70,000 from Bramcote Church of England Primary School in Nottinghamshire.

Gill, who had worked at the school since 2006 and held positions as office and business manager, embezzled funds to support her partner's drug habit between April 2016 and June 2022.

The theft led to significant financial strain on the school, necessitating potential staff redundancies and limiting essential resources for students.

Gill's actions came to light during a financial investigation in 2022 after a deficit was discovered.

She pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position.

Sentencing her at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge James Bide-Thomas emphasized the severe impact on the school community, noting that the school's head teacher, Sarah Meredith, and special educational needs pupils were particularly affected.

Despite Gill's claim of feeling pressured by an abusive relationship, the judge concluded that immediate imprisonment was necessary given the community's suffering.
