Instagram is facing scrutiny after users reported a 'results hidden' message when searching for 'Democrat' or 'Democrats'.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, acknowledged the issue, stating that it is a technical glitch affecting several hashtags, including some related to the Republican party.

The company assured that it is working urgently to resolve the issue.

The problem arose after President Donald Trump's inauguration, which Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg attended, leading to accusations of political bias.

Critics noted that the 'Republican' hashtag remains unaffected, with millions of posts appearing, while searches for 'Democrats' or '#Democrat' yielded no results.

Additionally, users searching for 'Republicans' saw limited results, unlike the unrestricted returns for 'Republican'.

Meta stated, 'We are aware of an error affecting hashtags across the political spectrum and are working quickly to resolve it.' Social media expert Matt Navarra described the issue as 'embarrassing' for Instagram, noting that even unintended errors can be seen as politically motivated in the current climate.

The controversy arises as Meta's ties with the Republican administration increase, with Zuckerberg attending Trump’s inauguration and the company instituting changes to its content moderation policies.

Meta also appointed Joel Kaplan, a former Republican official, as its global affairs chief.

This realignment has led some to believe that Meta is leaning more towards Republican viewpoints, despite past criticisms from Trump and his supporters about the platform’s censorship of right-wing voices.
