Local business aims to bring 'total wellness' to VI residents

Local business aims to bring 'total wellness' to VI residents

With strong immunity and good overall health being critical in this pandemic, Holistic & Therapeutic Nutrition Haven (HTNH) is one of the newest health-focused businesses in the Virgin Islands, established to “create a community of wellness”.

HTNH is owned by founder Mrs Phillipa Barry, a professional in Nutrition and Dietetics for over 30 years.

According to an HTNH press release, the company offers bespoke wellness programmes, meal plans, nutrition consults and workshops, cooking classes, micronutrient testing, along with organic backyard garden sessions.

HTNH’s other team members include Dietetic Technician Registered/Nutritionist (DTR/N), and Executive Chef, Mrs Cherine Williams, and farmer and entrepreneur Ms Josette Allen.

Mrs Williams provides personal nutrition consultations and facilitates the cooking sessions during workshops, while Josette facilitates the organic gardening sessions.

Regarding the types of illnesses HTNH treats, Mrs Barry says that many of her clients are presenting with cholesterol levels elevated, and raised haemoglobin A1C for pre-diabetes, along with those who are already diagnosed with cancer, renal disease, diabetes and hypertension.

She highlighted that HTNH has a very good success rate for reversing diabetes mellitus in juveniles and pregnant women.

'Nutrition is the first line of defense'

“Nutrition is the first line of defense to restore the patient’s well-being,” Mrs Barry said, adding that she also works hand in hand with doctors by providing nutritional guidance.

She explained that she designs the client’s bespoke wellness programme after taking into consideration the client’s current diet and lifestyle, physical issues, stress levels, sleep patterns and health history, going as far back to any issues they may remember from childhood.

Mrs Barry says that the programme is designed to give persons the tools, and help them learn the skills needed to heal themselves, and to bring the entire family on board.

To that end, Mrs Barry said, “This is especially important now. Persons need to make a decision to take care of themselves, and to look after their immune systems. We can’t go any other way right now.”

HTNH offers bespoke wellness programmes, meal plans, nutrition consults and workshops, cooking classes, micronutrient testing, along with organic backyard garden sessions.

Micronutrient testing

She highlighted micronutrient testing as a special service offered only by HTNH. She recommends this service to all clients as part of their annual health checks. The test checks an individual’s micronutrient levels, those vitamins and minerals needed for organs, and the entire body to function at optimal levels.

She said, “Micronutrients play a very great role in helping the body, especially the gut or digestive system, to function at optimal levels. In order for you to feel secure that your immune system is intact, you have to ensure that all organs are functioning in tandem with each other.

You will find that when one organ is off, the entire system is off balance. Then you’re most vulnerable to a weakened immune system.”

Never too late to boost immune system

Mrs Barry said that it is never too late to boost your immune system and encourages persons to book a consultation to learn more about how HTNH can help.

According to the press release, HTNH’s services are covered by National Health Insurance.

Persons are encouraged to call 443-5028 or 341-6723 to schedule an appointment.

"Holistic & Therapeutic Nutrition Haven’s services are delivered by qualified wellness professionals in alignment with the company’s motto: 'Choose you, love your body, nourish your mind,'" the press release stated.
