London to Experience Above Average Temperatures This Week
The capital is set to reach 21°C, surpassing typical spring weather as the Spring equinox arrives.
London is poised to experience unseasonably warm weather this week, with temperatures expected to rise to 21°C on Thursday.
This forecast indicates that the capital will be warmer than several Mediterranean destinations, including the Algarve, Ibiza, and Corfu, which are projected to have highs of 16°C and 17°C. In comparison, Los Angeles is also expected to match London's temperature of 21°C on the same day.
The rise in temperatures coincides with the Spring equinox, which signals the transition to longer days and warmer weather.
Initially, the week began with cooler conditions, as Londoners faced a chilly start on Tuesday with temperatures around 10 to 11°C, coupled with a gentle easterly breeze.
However, meteorologists predict a significant increase in temperatures towards the end of the week.
Becky Mitchell, a meteorologist, noted that the expected temperatures are eight degrees above the seasonal average.
As the week progresses, London is anticipated to enjoy increasing amounts of sunshine and dry weather, attributed to a large area of high pressure settling over the region.
Mitchell emphasized that while the wind has made the early week feel colder, Wednesday and Thursday will bring markedly warmer conditions, particularly affecting the southern parts of the UK. Areas including the South East and the Midlands are likely to experience the highest temperatures on Wednesday, with the warmth extending northwards into southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, and throughout England and Wales by Thursday.
In contrast, northern Scotland is expected to retain cooler weather through the middle of the week.
