Agreements made after account suspensions related to the events at the Capitol on January 6.
Former President
Donald Trump has reached settlements with social media companies X (previously known as Twitter) and Meta Platforms related to the suspension of his accounts following the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
X will pay roughly ten million dollars to settle the lawsuit Trump filed in 2021, which claimed unlawful censorship after his account was deplatformed.
In a similar vein, Meta has agreed to a settlement of twenty-five million dollars regarding the suspension of Trump's
Facebook and Instagram accounts.
These settlements occur during ongoing discussions regarding the role of social media platforms in content moderation and the legal issues surrounding account suspensions.
