Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes the crucial need for security assurances and the absence of territorial compromises in any forthcoming peace negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has remarked that former U.S. President
Donald Trump needs to obtain 'firm security guarantees' from Russia to put an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In a recent interview, Zelenskyy highlighted the necessity of having assurances that Russia would refrain from launching future assaults on Ukraine, especially in the eastern regions currently occupied by Russian forces.
He conveyed his willingness to engage in diplomatic discussions but insisted that such guarantees must be established first, firmly rejecting any territorial concessions in the occupied territories.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the onus lies with Trump and European leaders to secure this agreement, reiterating that efforts for peace require both diplomatic dialogue and definitive assurances to avert further escalation.
Trump, who has consistently expressed his wish to terminate the war, has previously raised doubts regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s readiness to negotiate.
The Ukrainian president also recognized the essential nature of U.S. support, which constitutes 30% of the global military aid to Ukraine, warning that any withdrawal of this assistance could result in a Russian victory and possibly lead to a wider conflict.
Zelenskyy pointed out that although there are critics, especially within the Republican Party, who oppose ongoing funding, U.S. support is crucial for Ukraine's defense efforts.
