Seabourn returns to BVI this week but passengers can’t come ashore

As the BVI struggles with an internal COVID-19 outbreak that has claimed the lives of at least 17 persons in a matter of weeks, another cruise line will be making its inaugural return call to the British Virgin Islands this week.
Seabourn Cruises will be arriving for its first call to the territory since the start of the global pandemic with its ship, Seabourn Odyssey.

The ship is set to arrive set within territorial waters on July 21, and again on July 29.

However, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) announced on Monday that the ship’s arrival is conditional given the ongoing COVID spike locally.

“The Odyssey will be calling to White Bay, Peter Island and passengers, as well as crew, will not be permitted ashore,” the BVIPA explained.

“The ship will be offering its ship ‘marina’ for guests to enjoy water-based activities in the harbour,” the Authority added.

“Per local and ship protocols, all passengers and crew are required to be fully vaccinated and have a negative COVID-19 test prior to arrival to the territory.”

According to the BVIPA’s website, Seabourn Odyssey may carry up to 462 guests.
