UK-Bound Jet2 Flight Diverts to Brussels After Midair Fight Forces Emergency Landing

Police removed two disruptive passengers after a violent altercation on a Turkey-to-Manchester service, and the airline imposed lifetime bans
A passenger flight bound for the United Kingdom was forced to divert to Belgium and make an emergency landing after a violent altercation broke out onboard, triggering a police response and the removal of two passengers.

The incident unfolded on a Jet2 service traveling from Antalya, Turkey, to Manchester, England, on Thursday, February 12. As the confrontation escalated in the cabin, the crew and flight deck took the decision to divert and land in Brussels, where law enforcement met the aircraft and escorted the two individuals off the plane.

The airline described the disruption as unacceptable behavior and said the incident caused distress to other passengers and crew.

After the removal of the two passengers in Brussels, the flight continued onward to Manchester.

Accounts circulating alongside video of the incident suggest the confrontation began with an argument that intensified into a physical fight.

Claims about what sparked the dispute have varied in retellings, and some descriptions reference alleged racist remarks directed at other passengers.

What we can confirm is that the confrontation became serious enough to require diversion and police intervention; what remains unclear is the precise sequence of words and actions that triggered the escalation.

Jet2 said both passengers involved have been banned for life from flying with the airline.

The carrier also indicated it intends to pursue recovery of the costs associated with the diversion, reflecting a broader industry push to deter unruly behavior by making disruptions financially consequential.

The episode underscores how quickly an inflight disturbance can become a safety and operational event.

Even when an aircraft remains mechanically sound, a sustained cabin conflict can compromise orderly operations, raise the risk of injury, and force a diversion that disrupts schedules, ties up airport and police resources, and imposes knock-on delays for crews and passengers.
