UK Updates Venezuela Travel Advice Following US Military Action
Foreign Office warns against travel and urges British nationals to review safety guidance amid heightened security risks
The United Kingdom has issued updated travel advice for Venezuela, warning British nationals of increased security risks following recent United States military strikes in the country.
The Foreign Office said the situation on the ground remains volatile and unpredictable, with the potential for further unrest, disruptions to transport and communications, and a heightened risk of violence.
In its revised guidance, the government advised against all travel to Venezuela and urged British citizens currently in the country to monitor developments closely, follow instructions from local authorities and review personal security arrangements.
It also cautioned that access to consular assistance may be limited due to the security environment and restrictions on movement.
The update followed confirmation from Washington that US forces had carried out military operations targeting key sites, prompting heightened alert levels across the region.
British officials said the change in advice reflects the rapidly evolving situation and the need to prioritise the safety of UK nationals.
Air travel, border crossings and internal transport may be disrupted at short notice, the Foreign Office said, adding that protests or security operations could occur with little warning.
The government reiterated its longstanding recommendation that those in Venezuela consider leaving when it is safe to do so, while emphasising that commercial options may be limited.
The Foreign Office said it would continue to review its guidance as events unfold and urged British nationals to register their presence so they can receive updates and emergency information.
