Swedish climate and human rights activist Greta Thunberg was released on bail after her arrest in London during a pro-Palestinian protest over the treatment of hunger-striking detainees linked to the group Palestine Action.

The demonstration, held outside the City of London near an office associated with an insurance firm said to provide services to a defence contractor, drew both police attention and public interest.

Thunberg, 22, was taken into custody under the United Kingdom’s Terrorism Act for displaying a sign reading “I support the Palestine Action prisoners.

I oppose genocide,” reflecting her solidarity with activists jailed on protest-related charges.

City of London Police confirmed that Thunberg was bailed to return to authorities in March, after spending several hours in custody.

Alongside her detention, officers earlier arrested two other individuals during the protest for suspected criminal damage after red paint was thrown at the premises.

Protest organisers maintain that the action aimed to highlight the plight of hunger strikers, some of whom have been on hunger strike for more than fifty days and are in what supporters describe as critical condition.

Palestine Action is designated a proscribed organisation under British law, meaning support for it can be treated as a terrorism-related offence.

The group and its backers argue that their campaign draws attention to broader concerns about civil liberties and treatment of detainees, while authorities emphasise enforcement of existing statutes.

Thunberg’s involvement drew intense international attention owing to her global profile, reigniting debate over the boundaries of protest, national security laws and public expression.

Her bail conditions will require her to appear before authorities when summoned next year, as the legal process unfolds.
