Charlotte Alice Peet, a 32-year-old British journalist, has been missing in Brazil since February 8, 2025, prompting a police investigation.
Charlotte Alice Peet, a 32-year-old British journalist, has been missing in Brazil for over 11 days, according to the Rio de Janeiro-based Association of Foreign Press Correspondents (ACIE).
Peet, who was last in contact with a friend on February 8, 2025, reportedly said she was in São Paulo and planning a trip to Rio de Janeiro.
Her friend later confirmed they had lost contact with her, and Peet's family in the UK also raised concerns when they were unable to reach her.
On February 12, 2025, Peet's friend reported her disappearance to the police in Rio.
Since her last known location was São Paulo, the case was transferred to local authorities there.
São Paulo's public security department confirmed that the Department of Homicide and Protection of the Person is involved in the investigation.
Peet, who is fluent in Portuguese, had previously worked as a freelance journalist for several outlets, including The Independent, The Times, The Daily Telegraph, and Al Jazeera.
The British embassy in Brazil is supporting her family and maintaining contact with local authorities.
The ACIE has urged authorities to intensify their search efforts to locate Peet as soon as possible.
