BVIHSA introduces QR code for faster COVID tests and results

BVIHSA introduces QR code for faster COVID tests and results

Persons requiring a COVID-19 test will be able to get their results faster using a Quick Response (QR) code that the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has introduced as part of a new initiative.

The BVIHSA said the initiative is being piloted at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School but is expected to be rolled out territory-wide soon.

The Authority further said the pilot programme which commenced this week has been progressing well and users have shared favourable reviews so far.

“Using this new process will help in reducing the time a patient is processed during their COVID-19 testing appointment while speeding up the turn-around for individuals receiving their results,” said Director of the BVIHSA’s Information & Technology Department, Mikey Farara.

He further said the QR code system will minimise the possibility of errors.

How it works

Once a person accesses a printout of the QR code and scans it using their smartphone, they will be redirected to a registration platform.

Once the registration is complete, the user will receive a confirmation code, which will then be scanned for verification prior to testing.

“The results will then be sent by email from the details already captured via the QR Confirmation Code into our computer system. The BVIHSA has also ensured that the location is equipped with WIFI access to make it easier to connect to the platform,” the BVIHSA stated.

“For persons who do not have access to a smartphone they can also register online at https://althea.bvi.care and secure a printed copy with their confirmation code. Those who are unable to register via phone or online will still be tested. Staff will register you, and you can request a printed copy of your test result,” the Authority added.

It continued: “The public is reminded that there are varying processing times for the approved COVID- 19 tests. Antigen (rapid) tests are generally processed within a 15-minute period while PCR tests are processed within a 24-to-36-hour period.”
