Entryway Lighting Ideas That Make a Strong First Impression

Entryway Lighting Ideas That Make a Strong First Impression

Find your light.

Your entryway is the first thing anyone sees when they walk inside your home, so setting the right tone with warm, stylish, and effective lighting is key to a good impression. And there are a few ways to achieve a well-lit entry, no matter what size and design preferences you're working with. Ahead, discover ten designer-approved entryway lighting ideas, from minimalist recessed lights to chic sconces and classic chandeliers.

Double Sconces

You don't have to hang an over-the-top chandelier to make a statement with lighting in your entryway. Interior designer Tamsin Johnson flanked a shapely mirror with modern, eye-catching sconces to embolden the marble console table and vase display.

Spherical Pendant

The circle motif of the bronze pendant speaks to the rounded table and soft curves of the accent chair in this space designed by Heather Hilliard. The warm tones bring in a nice contrast to the cobalt pieces.

Whimsical Pendant

In a casual, sweet entryway like this one, opt for a whimsical and bold light fixture that features a unique shape, colors, or material. But keep it quirky, not fancy, so it doesn't look overly formal in a more laidback space.

Architectural Table Lamps

This grand entryway features elegant, timeless anchor pieces, so the two edgy table lamps on the center console add just the right dose of modernity (and light, of course). They also mimic the lines of the table, adding to the overall design of the room.

Color-Matched Pendant

Match your pendant light to your color scheme for a cohesive look. We're loving the fun, preppy energy of this entryway, thanks to the light blue and white colors and mix of prints.

Single Sconce

Sconcesขespecially avant garde and artful ones like thisขmake for great wall decor while also illuminating the entry. Consider installing one for a subtly offbeat, asymmetric composition.

Chandelier

You can't go wrong with a classic crystal chandelier. This eclectic entryway designed by Tamsin Johnson is proof. The blue crystal drops set the entire room apart for a dramatic and bold entrance. Contrasted with a geometric table, fun Art Deco area rug, and modern photograph, it doesn't feel overly formal.

Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a good call if you prefer clean, crisp, modern interiors. A geometric grid of framed artwork and a sleek bench will set a cool gallery-like tone, as in this entry by Heather Hllliard Design.

Flush Mount

A flush mount won't take up as much vertical real estate as a low-hanging pendant or chandelier, but does add a bit more dimension and allure than recessed lights. Interior designer Heidi Caillier painted the base of the flush mount the same color as the walls for a consistent look and then added a contrasting table lamp for extra light and flair.
