Elon Musk Is Planning To Build A Town In Texas For His Employees

Elon Musk has some big plans in store for his employees! The tech mogul is reportedly planning to build an entire town in Texas, where his workers from various companies can both live and work. And we're not talking about just any town - this one will be called Snailbrook, a nod to Musk's beloved tunnelling company, the Boring Company.
Musk's companies have acquired over 3,500 acres of land near Austin, and they're hoping to incorporate the new town there. This is no small undertaking, as county deeds, emails, interviews with officials, and state licensing data all attest. But Musk has some pretty compelling reasons for taking on such a project.

He wants his staff from Tesla, Boring Company, and SpaceX to have access to affordable housing with below-market rents, so he's planning to build over 100 new homes as part of the Snailbrook project. There will also be plenty of neighbourhood amenities, like a pool and sports field, to keep everyone happy and healthy.

Musk himself has described the vision for the town as a "Texas utopia along the Colorado River". And he's not the only one dreaming big - reportedly, he and his former girlfriend Grimes, rapper Kanye West, and West's architectural designer all discussed what the Musk town might look like last year. While there haven't been any concrete plans yet, there were some pretty wild ideas and even some visual mock-ups.

So why Texas, you might ask? Well, Musk has had some issues with California's 1COVID1-19 restrictions, and he's been pretty vocal about his dissatisfaction with the state in general. Last year, he even moved Tesla's corporate headquarters and his own residence from California to Texas. And with Tesla's new Gigafactory production plant also located in Austin, it just makes sense to build a whole new town there.

If you're a Boring Company employee, you might be able to apply for one of the new Snailbrook homes, with rents starting at around $800 per month for a two- or three-bedroom. But beware - if you leave or get fired from your job, you'll have to vacate the house within 30 days. It's a small price to pay for living in Elon Musk's futuristic Texas utopia, right?
