Political critic and host of the Cut Deep talkshow Cindy Rosan-Jones said the people of the BVI have lost confidence in the embattled Andrew Fahie-led administration and are not impressed by the public statements and community meetings held across the territory in recent times.
Rosan-Jones said since the announcement of a
Commission of Inquiry (
COI) to investigate claims of political corruption in the territory, the government’s efforts have been targeted at making itself “look good” in the eyes of the people.
“We’re here now because the Premier gave the Governor (Augustus Jaspert) “the finger”. So to make themselves look good now, they have to plant these stories and they’re foaming at the mouth, the community meetings are extended. But you know that story about the boy who cried wolf? I think nobody wants to hear Andrew [
Fahie]. Nobody wants to hear them. People have lost such confidence in this administration at a high level,” Rosan-Jones argued.
Shortly before the
COI was announced by outgoing Governor Augustus Jaspert, the government started a series of territory-wide community meetings to inform residents of work the government is doing.
Since the
COI’s announcement, Premier Andrew
Fahie has given many public utterances about his views on the investigations, his interactions with past Governor Augustus Jaspert and the political scandals he thinks the
COI should focus on.
The
Fahie-led administration has been in office for just under two years. It has received praises for it’s handling of the
COVID-19 pandemic but has been bashed by several sections of the society for victimization of public servants and having lack of transparency or accountability.
