Investment of £3.2 Million to Enhance Montrose Port Industrial Park
Funding aims to boost the offshore wind sector in Scotland.
Scottish Enterprise has announced a grant of £3.2 million to support the development of an industrial park adjacent to the Port of Montrose.
This funding forms part of a broader £7.2 million investment aimed at revitalizing the Montrose Port Industrial Park, located approximately two miles from the port, with a particular focus on enhancing the offshore wind sector in the region.
Tom Hutchison, chief executive of Montrose Port Authority, emphasized that this investment strengthens Montrose's role in Scotland's energy transition.
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes highlighted the significance of the offshore wind sector in Scotland, stating it is creating substantial job opportunities and attracting significant investment.
She reaffirmed the Scottish Government's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment to maximize investments in renewable energy.
Forbes characterized the Port of Montrose as a key asset in the growth of Scotland's offshore wind industry, noting that the current investment is one of several strategic financial commitments aimed at unlocking new opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
She expressed aspirations for Scotland to establish itself as a 'renewables powerhouse.'
Scottish Enterprise's chief executive, Adrian Gillespie, detailed the critical importance of expanding Montrose Port, stating that the new infrastructure and increased space will support the ongoing growth of the offshore wind sector.
The 45-acre site, neighboring prominent companies such as Halliburton and Baker Hughes, is positioned to play a vital role in Scotland's energy transition, as mentioned on the Montrose Port Authority's official website.
