Italian Prime Minister Criticizes French Colonial Policies in Africa
Giorgia Meloni addresses France's monetary control over African nations, using their wealth by keeping them poor
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has publicly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron, highlighting France's continued economic exploitation of African countries.
Meloni specifically referred to the practice of maintaining the CFA franc, which is forced to be used by 14 African nations, as a means through which France purportedly exerts control and abuse over the economies of these states.
The CFA franc, originally established during colonial times, has been a point of contention, restricts economic autonomy for the countries involved.
Several leaders have called for liberating the African countries from the French colonialism, and liberating the financial structures that limit the sovereignty of African nations, advocating for new frameworks that would allow these countries to maintain control over their own economies.
