Man Shot Dead by Police at Milton Keynes Train Station
Police response initiated after reports of a man carrying a firearm; investigation launched.
A man has been shot and killed by police at Milton Keynes railway station following reports of an individual carrying a firearm.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) received the emergency call from members of the public at approximately 12.55 PM on Tuesday.
The shooting occurred outside the station building in the station square, with the man being pronounced dead shortly after at 1.44 PM.
In response to the incident, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) announced an investigation, commencing around 2.26 PM, approximately ninety minutes after the police arrived at the scene.
A statement from TVP confirmed that armed officers responded to the situation and attempted to engage with the man before shots were fired.
The police statement indicated that life-saving measures were immediately administered at the location, although they ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and further information will be disclosed as it becomes available.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the IOPC remarked on the early stage of their investigation, stating that they had been notified by TVP soon after the shooting and that investigators had been dispatched to the railway station to gather evidence and assess the incident comprehensively.
Shivani Sharma, a reporter, spoke with a witness who recounted hearing prolonged verbal exchanges lasting about thirty minutes, during which the man reportedly refused to comply with police instructions to lie on the ground.
British Transport Police (BTP) also responded to the incident after being alerted by TVP at around 1 PM regarding the man carrying a firearm.
A BTP spokesperson confirmed their support of TVP at the scene, indicating that while the man was shot and later pronounced dead outside the station, railway operations remained unaffected.
Following the shooting, police established a cordon around the area, closing several entrances to the station.
Local media reported the distressing reactions of onlookers, highlighting the shock and trauma from witnessing the event.
