The long-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will be available on June 5, 2025, featuring upgraded capabilities and a new lineup of games.
Nintendo has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Switch 2 console, confirming it will be available to consumers on June 5, 2025. This announcement was made during a live stream on April 2, 2025.
The Switch 2 will come equipped with enhanced features, including a game chat functionality, a higher-quality display, support for 4K graphics, and increased memory capacity.
Additionally, the console will maintain compatibility with original Switch games, allowing users to play their existing library of titles.
In conjunction with the console's launch, Nintendo unveiled a selection of new games, including a brand-new installment of the popular Mario Kart franchise, titled Mario Kart World, and a new Legend of Zelda game.
The lineup also includes some previously unavailable titles such as Elden Ring and Hades 2.
While a specific price for the console has not yet been disclosed, estimates suggest it could be around £350.
A notable feature of the Switch 2 is the introduction of a new "C" button on the Joy-Con controller, which will activate a "GameChat" feature.
This will enable players to communicate with friends and family in real-time during gameplay, as well as share their game screens with others.
Furthermore, a built-in microphone on the console will facilitate voice communication among gamers.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible, allowing players to access both physical and digital games from the original Switch, though some titles may not be fully supported on the new device.
To promote the upcoming launch, Nintendo plans to host hands-on events in various cities around the world, with an initial event slated for London Excel from April 11 to 13.
