Operating hours at Anegada airport amended due to COVID

The Auguste George International Airport on Anegada has amended its operating hours in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the territory.
In a press release earlier this morning, the Acting Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) Keith Flax said based on discussions among the board of directors, the change to operating hours will be in effect starting today.

According to the press release, the airport will be in operation from 9 am to 5 pm until Saturday, January 22. Additionally, flights into the Auguste George Airport will operate on a Prior Permission Required (PPR) basis from today until January 31.

International flights are also postponed, and only domestic flights will operate at the airport until further notice.

The media release sought to assure the travelling public that Flax and the BVIAA stand committed with the government as it exerts all efforts to manage and bring under control the number of staff affected by COVID-19.

The Acting Managing Director also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the amendment to the operation hours and also thanked the travelling public for their continued cooperation as the Airports Authority continues to ensure the safety of everyone.

Meanwhile, the BVIAA also announced that its administrative office will be closed to the public as a result of COVID-19 exposure. The office was closed yesterday and there is no given timeline for when in-person service will resume.

Persons who wish to conduct business through the BVIAA Administrative Office should contact them by telephone at 284-394-8000.

Last week, the BVIAA also announced that Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island will begin operating from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm until further notice.

The Virgin Islands is experiencing one of its largest surges in cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic back in 2020. This has affected both public and private institutions with many of them having to offer their services remotely.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health show that there are currently 1,387 active cases in the territory, 16 persons are hospitalised while there have been 40 deaths related to COVID-19.
