Nant Morlais Community Affected by Sinkhole and Heavy Rain
Homes have been evacuated in the Pant area of Merthyr Tydfil after a sinkhole, believed to be caused by a collapsed culvert, appeared.
Authorities, including South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Merthyr Tydfil council, responded to the incident on Sunday morning.
Around 30 homes in Nant Morlais had to be evacuated, and the area is currently closed to the public.
Heavy rains from Storm Bert and recent weather conditions may have exacerbated the situation.
Local resident Stephen Regan, living near the sinkhole, expressed his fears over the stability of his house.
The sinkhole is estimated to be 50 to 60 feet deep.
Merthyr Tydfil council leader Brent Carter has emphasized that safety is the main priority and asked people to stay away while repair work is underway.
