Tragic Collision in Brooklyn Claims Lives of Mother and Two Daughters
A north London family, walking home from synagogue, was struck by a vehicle, leading to three fatalities and serious injuries.
A significant traffic incident occurred in Brooklyn, New York, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her two daughters while they were walking home from a synagogue.
Natasha Saada, 34, and her daughters, eight-year-old Diana and five-year-old Debra, were fatally struck at a pedestrian crossing on Saturday afternoon.
The incident also left Ms. Saada's four-year-old son hospitalized with severe injuries, currently battling for his life according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The Saada family, originally from Mill Hill in north London, is well-known within the local Jewish community.
Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet of Mill Hill Synagogue described the community as being in a state of shock and grief, expressing that Natasha was deeply rooted in the Mill Hill area, having grown up there before moving to New York following her marriage.
The family had planned to travel back to London shortly to celebrate Passover, which begins on April 12. Following the tragedy, Rabbi Schochet traveled to Israel for the funeral and has since returned to New York with the family to assist them during this difficult time.
The collision involved a blue Audi, driven by 32-year-old Miriam Yarimi, who reportedly had a suspended driver’s license.
The NYPD indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether Yarimi may have run a red light or was under the influence while driving.
The accident occurred just after 1 PM local time when a silver Toyota Camry, carrying a family of five, attempted to make a right turn on Ocean Parkway.
The Camry was struck by Yarimi's Audi, causing it to lurch forward and hit Ms. Saada and her children at a crosswalk.
The crash resulted in a total of ten injuries, with reports indicating Yarimi had to be extricated from her vehicle.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams characterized the event as exceedingly tragic, reflecting on the senseless loss of life and the impact on the affected community.
The NYPD Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, labeled the incident a horrifying tragedy caused by a driver who should not have been behind the wheel.
Investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision continue.
