Trump Says US No Longer Needs UK Carrier Support After Delayed Offer Amid Iran Conflict

US president expresses frustration with timing of Britain’s proposed naval deployment while reaffirming America’s decisive military role in the Middle East campaign
United States President Donald Trump has said American forces no longer require British naval support in the Middle East, after the United Kingdom indicated it could deploy aircraft carriers to assist amid the escalating conflict with Iran.

The remarks came as Western allies coordinated responses to rising tensions in the region following US and Israeli strikes targeting Iranian military and strategic facilities.

Washington has significantly expanded its military presence across the Middle East, deploying carrier strike groups, surveillance aircraft and additional forces as part of a large-scale security operation.

President Trump acknowledged that the United Kingdom had considered sending Royal Navy aircraft carriers to the region but said the offer came after American forces had already mobilised the assets needed for the campaign.

He suggested the timing meant the additional deployment was no longer necessary.

“We will remember,” the president said when referring to the sequence of events, indicating his view that earlier coordination among allies would have been more helpful during the initial phase of the operation.

The United Kingdom had been weighing a larger military contribution as the situation in the Middle East intensified.

British officials discussed the possibility of sending aircraft carriers and other naval assets to reinforce maritime security and support allied operations in the region.

While Britain did not participate directly in the initial strikes against Iranian targets, the UK has continued to provide logistical and defensive support to allied forces.

American aircraft have operated from British bases and facilities, and the two countries maintain extensive intelligence sharing and operational cooperation.

British naval forces have also been placed on heightened readiness.

The aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales and other Royal Navy vessels have been prepared for potential deployment as governments across the region monitor the evolving situation.

Despite the disagreement over timing, the United States and the United Kingdom remain among the closest military partners in the world, with deeply integrated defence cooperation and long-standing alliance commitments.

Officials on both sides have emphasised that joint security arrangements, intelligence sharing and operational coordination continue as the conflict with Iran develops.

President Trump’s comments underscore Washington’s determination to lead the response to Iranian actions while expecting timely support from allies during critical moments of international security operations.
