Upcoming Pandemic Inevitable, Warns Former UK Chief Scientific Advisor

Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK's former chief scientific advisor, warns that another pandemic is inevitable and stresses the importance of preparedness. He emphasized better surveillance and rapid response mechanisms and criticized the G7 for neglecting this issue. Vallance also praised the WHO's pandemic accord as a positive step but urged future governments to prioritize pandemic preparedness.
Sir Patrick Vallance, former chief scientific advisor of the UK, has declared that another pandemic is certain and stresses the need for preparedness.

Speaking at the Hay Festival, Vallance emphasized the importance of better surveillance and rapid response mechanisms and criticized the G7 for neglecting this issue.

He proposed treating pandemic preparedness similar to maintaining a national army and praised the World Health Organization's pandemic accord as a positive step.

Vallance urged future governments to focus on these urgent matters and expressed frustration over delays in necessary legislative action.
