Tom Herring, a Falklands War veteran and chairman of the South Atlantic Medal Association, is advocating for a change in UK law after ex-chief constable Nick Adderley was dismissed for wearing an unearned campaign medal.
Adderley, 57, was found guilty of gross misconduct, having falsely claimed a South Atlantic Medal while he would have been only 15 during the war.
Herring, who served in the Battle for Mount Longdon, lost 23 comrades and believes the UK should adopt laws similar to other countries where wearing unearned medals is a criminal offense.
Adderley apologized unreservedly to veterans but was dismissed after exaggerating his naval career and achievements.
Hailing from Bedford, Herring wears his medal with pride and insists that military honors should be respected.
