Met Office Issues Yellow Warning for Snow and Ice as Temperatures Plummet

First Snow of the Season Causes Widespread Disruption Across the UK
The UK is facing yellow weather warnings as the first snowfall of the season leads to significant disruptions.

More than 200 schools have closed, and warnings are in place for potential vehicle strandings, power outages, and isolated rural areas.

Forecasters predict temperatures in rural Scotland could drop to -12°C and -7°C in Wales on Wednesday night.

Yellow warnings cover eastern and northern England, Northern Ireland, and parts of Scotland and Wales, with conditions expected to last until 10:00 on Wednesday.

Counties along the North Sea coast may see snow showers with up to 10cm accumulations on higher ground.

Daytime temperatures will be significantly below the November average, with London dropping to -2°C by Friday.

A recent cold spell saw Braemar in Aberdeenshire hit -11.2°C, the coldest early winter night since 1998.

Adverse conditions led to road closures in Wales, affecting major routes like the A44 and A55.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued an amber health alert for several regions, advising preparations to ensure the well-being of vulnerable individuals.

Cold weather payments may be available to assist with fuel bills.

The cold snap poses an increased risk to the health services, emphasizing the importance of community support for high-risk groups.
