Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom dismissed Health Secretary Andrew Gavin on Saturday following the revelation of a series of controversial messages sent in a private WhatsApp group.
Gavin's messages, which were shared with members of the Labour Party, included sexist, racist, and antisemitic comments.
In one message, Gavin told a fellow party member, ‘You can die if you don’t vote for us.’ He also made derogatory comments about a Jewish American psychologist, stating he sounded 'too militaristic and too Jewish,' and questioned if he was 'in Mossad.' Additionally, Gavin mocked 'Black History Month' and made sexual remarks about Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for the British government emphasized that the Prime Minister is committed to maintaining high standards in public service and would take action against any minister failing to meet these standards.
Gavin expressed regret for his messages and apologized to anyone affected.
