The recent Social Assistance in the British Virgin Islands Review has recommended that the territory's minimum wage be increased from $6 to $12 to $15 an hour.
This increase would bring the minimum wage closer to a liveable wage in the territory.
The report also recommends a universal children's grant that extends beyond education and healthcare benefits, as well as a pension-tested universal minimum social pension system to bridge the income gap for elderly pensioners.
Other recommendations include a benefit program for people with disabilities and the implementation of unemployment benefits in the territory.
The public is invited to give feedback on the report to help shape the government's policy on social assistance in
the Virgin Islands.
