Infected Blood Scandal: Government Announces £210,000 Interim Payments
Cabinet Office Minister John Glen announced £210,000 interim payments for infected blood scandal victims within 90 days. This adds to the previously distributed one hundred thousand pound payments. These measures follow a report on the NHS and government's culpability in the tragedy.
Cabinet Office Minister John Glen announced that the UK government will make further interim payments of £210,000 to victims of the infected blood scandal within 90 days.
This is in addition to the previously distributed £100,000.
Glen stated that payments would be made to living infected beneficiaries registered with existing support schemes, as well as those who register before the final compensation scheme becomes operational.
These announcements come after a report highlighted the NHS and government's culpability in the tragedy.
Glen also confirmed the establishment of the Infected Blood Compensation Authority with Robert Francis as interim chair.
The full compensation package's cost is yet undetermined, but Glen assured that the government would honor its commitments.
