Police Stop Ed Sheeran's Street Performance in Bengaluru
The singer discusses police involvement during a scheduled street performance prior to his concert.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran experienced an unforeseen disruption during a street performance in Bengaluru on [insert date], as local police intervened shortly after he began to sing.
Sheeran took to Instagram to explain the circumstances, saying, "We had permission to busk, by the way. Thus, our performance in that specific location was prearranged. It wasn’t just us showing up unannounced. All good though. See you at the show tonight x."
The performance occurred on Church Street, renowned for its lively ambiance, but was halted by local officials who raised concerns about the lack of official permission for the event.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Central Bengaluru, Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, elaborated on the police's response. He mentioned that a representative from Sheeran's team had approached him seeking approval, which he declined. The decision was influenced by Church Street being a busy area and in alignment with a high court order that required evacuations in that zone.
A video that surfaced on social media displayed Sheeran starting to perform his popular song 'Shape of You,' only to have the performance interrupted shortly after, as police cut off his microphone.
While Sheeran's team claimed that the busking was officially sanctioned, the police maintained that no formal approval existed.
Sheeran's visit to India is part of his ongoing _The Mathematics_ tour, which has included performances in multiple cities like Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, with a significant concert slated for Bengaluru later that evening.
