Rare First Edition Harry Potter Book Sells for Over Twenty-One Thousand Pounds
A first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, once destined for disposal, fetches a high price at NLB Auctions.
A rare first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was sold at auction for more than twenty-one thousand pounds at NLB Auctions in Paignton on Saturday.
The book was discovered among the possessions of a deceased man from Brixham and had been earmarked for disposal.
According to Daniel Pearce of NLB Auctions, the copy comes from the first print run of five hundred copies, with three hundred distributed to public libraries.
Pearce noted that a typographical error on the back of the book, where the word 'Philosopher's' is missing the letter 'o', confirmed its status as a first edition.
The auction was scheduled for approximately four p.m. Greenwich Mean Time to accommodate bidders participating in person, over the telephone, and online.
